Puritanical Mechanical: Do the math or face the wrath.
2.5 Hours (2.5 CPD)
Smaller devices do not accommodate a broad range of performance capacities. High energy efficiency results in a need for right-sizing everything, and the result (when done correctly) is lower capital costs in construction, lower operating costs for homeowners, and longer service lives for the building’s systems. The session includes:
- An exploration of the increasing risks of rule-of-thumb design,
- Understand the tools to avoid problems and failures, including:
- CSA F280,
- Airtightness testing,
- Energy Modelling,
- Effective ventilation design, and
- Right-sizing equipment choices,
- Discussions of the impact of carbon reduction on the evolution of mechanical devices,
- The current (in BC) and likely requirements for mandatory cooling in most new homes in Canada,
- A “How To” for working with Energy Modellers during design and construction, and
- Consideration of the advantages of decreased HVAC loads with increased energy efficiency.
