Comfort: The Building Code requires it.
2.5 Hours (2.5 CPD)
This session is focused on combining the critical evolution of the environmental control layers, systems and components into a single design philosophy that balances choices related to:
- Airtightness,
- Insulation,
- Windows and other fenestration, and
- Indoor environmental quality and comfort.
The Integrated Design Process (IDP) focuses on a collaborative approach to design. The entire design team contributes to high-level discussions early in the process to identify potential performance improvements and cost efficiencies that may not have been evident to each element of the design when considered alone. The result can be that the whole design becomes much greater than the sum of the parts. The challenge for Part 9 (small structure) projects is that there are often fewer contributors to the overall design. As a result, improvements and efficiencies may not become apparent until further in the construction phase. These late catches can be impractical to correct, and in some cases, identified problems may prove to be non-conforming with Codes and/or Bylaws and require correction at any cost. This module focuses on the tools that assist designers and builders in assuring better choices are being considered.
